"1778-1943 Americans will always fight for liberty" Poster
Bernard Perlin, artist. Office of War Information poster, no. 26. 1943.
Perlin studied painting at the Art Students League in New York. Under the Works Projects Administration he created post office murals prior to the war. This poster is one of the few which visually associates the fight for freedom in World War II with the American Revolution.
U.S. soldiers in helmets and coats march forward on snow, looking back in review at colonial militiamen with rifles, some in torn clothing or bloody bandages. A badge of the U.S. flag is displayed prominently on the shoulder of the soldier nearest the viewer.
Poster is 23 1/2 inches by 31 1/2 inches.
