Question: Ever wondered if Uncle Sam is based on an actual person?

Answer: The concept and namesake of Uncle Sam as we know him today was based in part on a well respected meat butcher named Sam Wilson who was well known for his generosity to the community in which he lived. During the War of 1812, Sam or "Uncle Sam" as he came to be known, supplied the US Troops with salted beef and pork. The barrels bore the "U.S." initials for United States, which the troops referred to as the mark for property of "Uncle Sam".
The image of Uncle Sam came from an entirely different source in history. The most famous depiction of Uncle Sam, the one used on recruitment posters during World War I and World War II, was actually modeled on the artist who drew it, James Montgomery Flagg.

The Uncle Sam Sculpture is approx. 7-inches tall and is made of cast resin. Perfect for a paperweight desk item, or for school projects. Uncle Sam is in patriotic red, white, and blue garb with top hat, in his iconic "I Want You!" stance.
