This challenge coin is a great way to show your Army pride and makes a great gift for the Veteran in your life!
The United States Army is the largest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and is responsible for land-based military operations. It is also the oldest because it claims its roots in the Continental Army from 1775 (American Revolutionary War). During World War II, the U.S. Army was active on all fronts, and, following the surrenders of Germany (May 1945) and Japan (August 1945), they occupied the surrendering countries.
The Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, is a special operations force that specializes in employing unconventional warfare. They are the only special operations force in the United States trained to do so. Their other primary tasks are counter-terrorism, direct action, foreign internal defense and special reconnaissance. The Green Berets trace their roots back to World War II with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) who supported resistance groups in Europe and Burma by going behind enemy lines and gathering intelligence.
•Coin measures 1¾" in diameter
The history of challenge coins goes back a long time, though the true origin is disputed. Some stories date them back as far as World War I, whereas others claim they are as recent as the Vietnam War.
The modern day challenge coin is used as a symbol of unity, as an award for meritorious behavior, and of course as a challenge. "Coin Checks", as these challenges are called, are a way to boost morale, prove membership, and, if caught without your coin, a way to end up having to buy the challenger's next round of drinks.
