Description
African American Rosie Notepad
When the United States entered World War II, war production had to increase dramatically. Women needed to work in the factories as many of the men were leaving for the service. The government launched a campagin to sell the importance of of the war efforts and to encourage women to join the workforce. With a We Can Do It! Poster, they promoted the fictional character of "Rosie the Riveter" as the ideal worker: loyal, efficient, patriotic, and pretty. The illustration on this jotter pad, inspired by the poster, recognizes the contribution made to the war effort by women of color.
