Description
Billions of letters were mailed across the globe during World War II with Americans expressions loneliness, love, and hope for the future. Expressions of America calls upon these letters, presenting in a new light the words and thought of the everyday men and women who served our country.
While serving in the US Marine Corps from 1943-1946, Corporal Joseph Blackburn sent hundreds of letters home to his family in envelopes covered with his cartoon artwork. These letters and envelopes helped him keep up with his commercial art trade and allowed him to maintain precious contact with his loved ones.
