Description

Women of WWII Mini Magnet Set

During World War II, posters like these encouraged women to contribute to the war effort: to join special divisions of the United States military forces, to conserve resources at home, and to work in factories performing the jobs of the men who had gone to war. The Women's Army Corp (WAC), created in 1942 as the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), was the women's branch of the United States Army. General Douglas MacArthur called the WACs "my best soldiers," adding that they worked harder, complained less, and were better disciplined than men. Other branches of the U.S. military had similar women's units: the Navy WAVES, the Coast Guard SPARS and the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP).
