The Stearman was the primary trainer aircraft for the USAAC and the US Navy throughout World War II. The student and instructor sat in open cockpits in tandem. After WWII, most Stearman were auctioned off to civilians and former military pilots, and became popular as crop dusters, sports planes, and for aerobatic and wing walking use in air shows.
