During World War II, pieces like this, known as "Sweetheart Jewelry", were worn by civilians to show that a loved one was in the military. This service-oriented type of jewelry became a fashionable way to support the war effort on a very personal level.

A very historical piece of costume jewelry. In person its a bit bland looking in that its not in a presentation box or package or even pinned to a card. That would be a great way to add some historical information about what Sweetheart pins are during WWII and so on.
