Specializing in Parachute Assault, the 82nd Airborne was crucial to the success of World War II. Begun in 1917, the unit's "AA" symbol stands for All-American, as its members came from all over the United States. The 82nd Airborne is still active to this day and has participated in both World Wars, the Cold War, and the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns.
