Near Disaster
Interesting chronology on the naval and air battles in the fight to win the Solomon Islands campaign. While the battle for Guadalcanal is well known, if not for the failure of Japan to follow up early naval victories then the outcome would have been a colossal failure for the US. The US had an advantage in intelligence yet it suffered tremendously in the night naval engagements. This book tells how the foothold on Guadalcanal with its airfield changed naval warfare for both combatants.
