The Supermarine Spitfire was a British fighter aircraft that was used during WWII by the British Royal Air Force along with other Allied forces. With over 20,000 made, it was the highest-produced British aircraft. Designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft the Spitfire also served in photo-reconnaissance, fighter-bomber, carrier-based fighter, and trainer missions.
