Women Ordnance Worker Magnet Set

During World War II, the young women of America lined up at factories and arsenals to fill jobs left vacant by the men who went to fight. Each woman involved in the production of military hardware became known as a WOW (Women Ordanance Worker). These Women wore red bandanas with distinctive white markings of the "shell and flame" not only for saftey reasons but from a strong sense of pride, accomplishment, and achivement in their contributions to the war effort. They bagged gunpowder, made weapons, created ammunition, and also operated heavy cranes, mailing machines, and countless other heavy tools that most women had never even heard of before the war.
